How did April 15th become tax day?

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

We may forget birthdays and anniversaries; but I doubt anyone forgets that April 15th is the day of reckoning for personal income taxes in the United States.  Given that today is April 15th, we should take a closer look at the origin.  The implementation of the personal income tax was the direct result of Congress passing the sixteenth Amendment on February 3rd, 1913 with the deadline for filing being chosen as March 1st of the following year.  The deadline was changed to March 15th in 1918, for unknown reasons.  The last time the deadline was moved, it became April 15th  in 1955.  For the last 55-years April 15th has been the deadline for personal income taxes.

Six Months Today

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Six months ago today Barry O signed the Stimulus Bill (SB).  This was to help jump start our economy that is in a recession.  There are many stories and spins out there flying around about the results of this bill that was never read in its full release by any elected official until it was to late.  No one knows who to believe or what to follow and everyone is confused.  But wait a minute, these are the very same people that promised they would track EVERY dollar  and it would not go to waste.  These are the very same people that want to run our country like a socialist country.  Look at all the programs that have been pushed and forced down the throats of Americans like “Cash for Clunkers” which the Gov can not handle.  So back to the Stimulus Bill.  I will not go through all the news clips, lost promises and quotes from Barry O and his foot in mouth side kick Biden, but who is holding these guys accountable?  Everyone could sit around for hours and debate if the SB is actually working or not, that is not so much my beef with them as where is the money going (EVERY PENNY) and how is it being spent.  The government is and will continue to make promises that can not keep until they are stopped.  Just some thoughts on the six month anniversary of political junk coming out of  this government admin.

Modern Day Tea Parties

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

jlbhummer09small1 Well organized US protests, called Tea Parties, are going to happen across America tomorrow, named after that historical tax protest in Boston Harbor. Hundreds of thousand of US citizens who have not forgotten that America is a glorious experiment in self government, and the time has come for as many self’s as possible to stand up and take our country back. Outraged by the so-called “stimulus bill” spending that none of our representatives even read, unauthorized bailouts, a Fedzilla feeding frenzy destroying everything in its way, and like spent shell casings at a machine gun shoot in the hills of Kentucky, wasted tax dollars too huge to imagine, and corruption by bureaucrats gone mad, we the people will peacefully demonstrate with our hearts and emotions on our sleeves, gather at local government centers to show our employees that they are out of control.   It is time to shout it loud and proud that we simply will not take it any more.  Our employees (elected officials) are destroying our country by taxing companies more to help spread the money because no one is held accountable.  It’s about time our employees are held accountable.
